close-up-handOn September 5, 2008 the Hope Center received a Targeted Capacity Expansion Program for Substance Abuse Treatment and HIV/AIDS Services grant.  In addition to the project director and project coordinator, there are two full-time HIV counselors and a Hispanic case worker who administers the risk assessment to non-English speaking Hispanic clients. The HopeMobile (our mobile outreach unit) coordinator and case worker have also been certified to administer the HIV rapid tests.

Because of this grant we are able to give every client that enters the Hope Center an assessment and offer a rapid test as part of the intake process. The HopeMobile also offers risk assessments and on-site HIV rapid testing for all of their clients - men and women. The rapid HIV test takes 20 minutes. That time is used to educate and counsel clients on changing high-risk behaviors.

The Wellness and Recovery Management (WARM) Project serves adult homeless men who are members of high risk, underserved populations impacted by HIV and substance abuse. The specific high risk target population for the proposed project includes members of racial/ethnic minorities (primarily African American and Latino/Hispanic) who are homeless.

The WARM project (at the Privett Center) provides expanded residential recovery services and expanded and enhanced HIV/AIDS services, including outreach and pre-treatment. The project will provide targeted outreach and pre-treatment for substance abuse and HIV/AIDS to racial/ethnic minorities, and residential services, including detox, recovery services, and referral for treatment.

Annually, we expect to give 1,200 tests at the Hope Center. The HopeMobile plans to give 250 tests annually, which also includes women. The HopeMobile provides testing three days a week while on site at Shiloh Baptist, Maxwell Presbyterian and Broadway Christian Churches.
